Why Contractors Leave ServiceTitan

  • Revenue dropped or shop downsized. ST's ROI math depends on $1.5M+ revenue. Below that, the cost crushes margins.
  • Pricebook + flat-rate isn't a fit. Some shops thrive on T&M and ST's flat-rate orientation gets in the way.
  • Annual price increase shock. Renewal quotes 15-25% higher than year prior are common.
  • Modules nickel-and-dime. Marketing Pro, Pricebook Pro, Phones, Dispatch Pro add up fast.

Where to Go (By Size)

  • Solo to 5 techs, $200K-$700K revenue: Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials. You should never have been on ST.
  • 5-10 techs, $700K-$1.5M revenue: Housecall Pro Plus/Max, or FieldEdge
  • 10+ techs, want to keep mature dispatch: FieldEdge is the most natural step-down from ST
  • Roofing or project-based: JobNimbus, AccuLynx, Buildertrend — you were probably mis-sold ST

90-Day Exit Plan

  1. Days 1-30: Pick replacement. Get demos from FieldEdge + HCP Max. Run 14-day trial on top pick.
  2. Days 31-60: Export all data. Customer list, invoice history, payment records, pricebook, service agreements. Get everything before you cancel — ST's contract typically requires written notice 60-90 days before renewal.
  3. Days 61-90: Migrate customers, rebuild quote templates, run side-by-side for 30 days, then cancel ST.

The Data Extraction Trap

ServiceTitan does not make data export easy. Expect to pay for "data extraction services" or use the API (developer required). Plan 2-4 weeks for clean export. Capture:

  • Customer master list with full address + contact
  • Job history (last 24 months minimum)
  • Invoice + payment records (for AR reconciliation)
  • Pricebook (your customized version, not ST's base)
  • Service agreement details with renewal dates

Contract Gotchas

  • Auto-renewal: ST contracts auto-renew. Mark calendar 90 days before renewal date.
  • Early termination: Generally not permitted without paying out the remainder.
  • Multi-year deals: If you signed a 3-year deal, exits are painful. Negotiate end-of-term, not mid-term.
